Mo Farah, the double Olympic champion, yesterday committed to competing at the Commonwealth Games in July.
With Team England demanding that the Londoner confirm his availability before their forthcoming selection deadline, Farah has moved to declare he will race at Hampden although the events he will target are understood to remain undecided.
The Oregon-based runner, who came eighth in his marathon debut in London last month, announced his decision on Twitter last night, saying: "Hi guys! I will be running in the Commonwealth Games this year. See you in Glasgow! Shabba....!!"
It will be the second time that the three-time world champion has taken part in the Commonwealths, having finished ninth in Melbourne eight years ago.
However, with the potential defence of his European 5000m and 10,000m titles coming just two weeks after Glasgow, the 31-year-old could opt to race the 1500 metres, having beaten Steve Cram's UK record at the distance in 2013.
It is expected that the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who shares the same management company as Farah, will also race at the Commonwealths with the 200m considered his probable event.
