Steven Anderson, the St Johnstone defender, has agreed a new two-year contract with the Perth club.

The 28-year-old has jumped at the opportunity to extend his stay having first leapt to head his side ahead in their William Hill Scottish Cup final victory earlier this month.

The defender is due to be awarded a testimonial next season and may yet celebrate the moment alongside defender Gary Miller and goalkeeper Steve Banks, who have each been offered new one-year deals.

However, forward Nigel Hasselbaink, midfielder Paddy Cregg, defender Tim Clancy and experienced striker Chris Iwelumo have all left the club having failed to earn extensions.
