Gavin Strachan - the son of Scotland manager, Gordon - has been appointed the new assistant manager at Peterborough United.

He steps into the role following a spell as the club's Under-18s coach to work alongside Darren Ferguson, the son of Sir Alex.

The Peterborough manager also agreed a new three-year contract yesterday and has agreed to promote Strachan, who has worked as a coach at the Sky Bet League 1 club since 2011.

"I know how this football club works," said Strachan, a former Peterborough player. "I have been here for a number of years and I cannot wait to start working with this group."
