GAVIN GUNNING'S move to Sheffield Wednesday has fallen through after he failed a medical examination.

The former Dundee United defender was on the verge of securing a summer deal with Stuart Gray's ambitious Sky Bet Championship side.

But the 23-year-old, who left Tannadice recently, will have to look elsewhere following his medical. The centre-back played his last game for United when they lost 2-0 to St Johnstone in the William Hill Scottish Cup Final at Celtic Park last month.

Gunning spent three years at United and it opens the door for Rangers to come back in for him if they think he can help them go for promotion back to the top flight.
