Bastian Schweinsteiger is expected to feature for Germany today when they open their World Cup campaign, despite having been airlifted to hospital yesterday to assess a knee injury.

The midfielder - whose side face Portugal this afternoon - was taken to hospital to have a scan on his knee, having hurt himself at the team's training camp last month. However, a spokesperson for the German national team was adamant that Schweinsteiger was only being given a check up for insurance purposes and was not a fitness doubt for the Group G opener.
