MADJID BOUGHERRA, the former Rangers defender, is targeting a move to the Barclays Premier League after this summer's World Cup.

The Algeria captain, whose side kicked off their tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Belgium last night, is reportedly attracting interest from a host of English top-flight sides including Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers and Leicester City.

The 31-year-old - a free agent after being released by Qatari side Lekhwiya - is also attracting interest from France and Turkey.

However, a return to England, where he previously turned out for Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic, is his aim. "I would definitely favour a move to England if the right opportunity comes up," Bougherra admitted.

"I am not aware of too much it at this stage about my future as I am thinking purely about Algeria and the World Cup, but I do know of offers from Turkey and France."
