Ronny Deila will welcome Craig Gordon into the Celtic fold today after finalising a deal to sign the former Scotland goalkeeper on a two-year contract.

Gordon, 31, has not played competitive football since August 2012, after knee injuries blighted a career that was once so promising that Sunderland paid Hearts a British record of £9m for his services in 2007. With Fraser Forster looking increasingly likely to be sold, Gordon's arrival might bring his departure nearer.

Deila certainly had an air of satisfaction about him yesterday as he led his Celtic squad through an intense pre-season training camp in the picturesque Austrian hills. The Norwegian will be in the dugout for the first time as manager when his new charges face FK Krasnodar tonight in the first of a series of pre-season friendlies

Deila is happy with the progress being made by everyone as he aims to put his own stamp on the club. "It has lived up to my expectations, but everything is the same when you get on the pitch and work with the staff. I'm used to that. The difference is when you go among people and you understand that it is an enormous club, with a lot of passion and that is what is new for me."

"I see a lot of very good football players, but there are some differences between how they play before and how we want them to play and that takes a little bit of time but we have made a good start.

"We would ideally have more time before the Champions League qualifiers but the boys are working hard every day so credit to them, some things are going a little bit slower than other things but I think we have come very far in a short space of time."
