BRUNO DE CARVALHO, the president of Sporting Lisbon, has dismissed reports Ryan Gauld will be paid a fortune in bonuses at his new club.

The former Dundee United forward has joined the Portuguese side on a six-year contract, earning the Tannadice club at least £2.5m.

But the Sporting president was unhappy at reports that Gauld would earn a £100,000 bonus for qualifying for the Champions League, and an £80,000 bonus for winning the Portuguese league.

"Some of the nonsense that has been written has been almost criminal," he said.

"It's one thing trying to criticise me, it's quite another telling blatant lies without any substance."
