Ashley Cole signed for Serie A club Roma yesterday.

The former Chelsea and England left-back moved under freedom of contract, having been allowed to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of last season.

The 33-year-old, who subsequently announced his retirement from international football after he was left out of England's World Cup squad, had been linked with a number of teams both in the Barclays Premier League and in Europe.

He has chosen to sign a two-year contract at Roma, with the club holding an option to sign him for a further year. That contract will reportedly earn him up to €4.6 m (£3.65m) in wages.
