Alan Stubbs, the Hibernian head coach, will continue to monitor goalkeeper Antoine Gounet after the Frenchman played as a trialist in yesterday's 2-0 win at Stirling Albion.

The former Brentford player, once a team-mate of new Hibs striker Farid El Alagui at Griffin Park, had little to do during a dominant display at Forthbank as the Leith side collected their win courtesy of goals from Jordan Forster and Alex Harris either side of half-time.

Recruiting a new goalkeeper is still Stubbs' main priority, following the summer departures of Ben Williams, Sean Murdoch and Paul Grant.

Stubbs said: "He didn't have an awful lot to do to be honest but he's someone who we are looking at.

"We're going to monitor him to see how he does. He's only been with us a couple of days.

"He's done nothing wrong in the game; we will look to see how he does as the week progresses, we'll assess him and take it from there."

Stubbs, who also signed former Manchester United right-back David Gray, added: "There are one or two things on the go and we're just waiting on decisions.

"It's not what I wanted but I'm prepared to give it a few extra days if it means us getting the right person in.

"I hope it will be over the course of the next week. I know the day is getting closer and, fingers crossed, something will happen over the next few days, few hours."

Asked if he is planning to run the rule over players this week, Stubbs replied: "Possibly. We are ongoing. There are one or two areas that I would like to strengthen and if I can do that, great. It has to be the right person.

"I've got some good players here and the players that I bring in will be to benefit those players and to add strength and depth."

Short of match fitness, former Falkirk striker El Alagui lasted just under an hour in his maiden appearance since joining from Brentford and Stubbs was encouraged by what he saw.

The Hibs manager said: "We are still finding out, especially the players, about Farid's strengths but I think it was there for all to see that for the 60 minutes he was on he gave us an added edge in and around the final third.

"From that point of view it's pleasing, it's good to get the minutes under his belt and we'll progress him with caution and not rush him too quickly."

After pressing for long spells, Hibs went ahead after 28 minutes when Forster forced in Liam Craig's free kick at the back post.

Stirling made a strong finish to the half when Phil Johnston hit a post from distance before Paul Hanlon cleared a Dale Fulton effort off the line with his head during the same move.

Harris doubled Hibs' lead in the 56th minute, controlling Craig's pass in the box before firing a left-footed shot past Callum Reidford.
