Kenny Shiels, the former manager of both Kilmarnock and Morton, has been appointed head of coaching at the Forth Valley Football Academy.

Shiels, out of work since resigning as Morton manager following a 10-2 annihilation at the hands of Hamilton on the final day of last season, replaces former Falkirk defender Craig McPherson.

Based at Stirling University, the Scottish FA academy brings together the best young talent from Falkirk, Stenhousemuir and East Stirlingshire. Shiels said: "I'm very much looking forward to not only developing the football player but also the person, linking in with the education and welfare programme delivered by the academy."
