Scott Arfield described his pride at scoring against Chelsea on his maiden Barclays Premier League appearance, after revealing that his family were among the crowd at Turf Moor on Monday evening.

The former Falkirk midfielder scored the opening goal against Jose Mourinho's side with a stunning volley from the edge of the box after he had expertly controlled a pinpoint Matt Taylor delivery. The strike left Thibault Courtois with no chance in the Chelsea goal and gave Sean Dyche's side a dream start to life back in the top tier.

Unfortunately for Arfield, it also appeared to spark the star-studded Londoners into life and they strolled to a 3-1 win after a 17-minute blitz from Diego Costa, Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic. Nevertheless, it did not entirely sour the occasion for the 25-year-old Scot, who was cheered on by a posse from north of the border. "I just had a bit of composure, took a touch and let fly," said Arfiled. "Thankfully it goes into the roof of the net so I was absolutely buzzing. I've waited a long time to play in the top division and I enjoyed it. On a personal level that was different class and my family were down here from Scotland to see it too. They've stuck by me and they've waited a long time for that too so it was a really special moment.

"There are definitely positives to take out of it. For us it is still a case of taking one game at a time and there is no disappointment regardless of this result, we're on to the next game."
