WILLO FLOOD admitted he was surprised when Derek McInnes summoned him to his office to sign a contract extension which will keep him at Aberdeen for three more years.

"I still had two years left," he said. "I wasn't even thinking about a new deal but the gaffer just pulled me and said he wanted me to sign the same length of deal as him. I think Aberdeen can go even further with him in charge and I want to be part of making that happen.

"I would love to see us challenging Celtic if I'm being honest.

"Whether the financial gap is too big or not we don't know but that would be an aim for Aberdeen."
