Aiden McGeady has been labelled a "unique talent" by Roberto Martinez, the Everton manager.

After a slow start to his Everton career following his arrival from Spartak Moscow in January, the former Celtic winger hit the ground running this season by scoring his first goal for the club in last weekend's opening day 2-2 draw at Leicester City.

Martinez is now looking for McGeady to come to the fore in the absence of injured England midfielder Ross Barkley.

Martinez said: "Aiden's quality is quite unique. I haven't seen such a talented footballer for a very, very long time.

"It was great see Aiden scoring his first goal in the first game of the season. But this summer I had seen Aiden coming back in a really, really good shape for pre-season and from day one he has been himself.

"I haven't seen players that have got individual quality with ball control in one-on-one situations as good as Aiden.

"I am very, very excited to see what Aiden can do with us this season. Sometimes it is important that you start your season well and that you get that little good moment.

"Clearly he got that by scoring his first goal for the club. I think the fans are in for a great time with Aiden."
