Ivan Lendl has admitted that being unable to commit to Andy Murray full-time was the driving factor behind the two parting ways earlier this year.
The partnership of Lendl and Murray proved fruitful, with the Scot first winning gold at the Olympics, then the US Open and Wimbledon. However, it was announced in March that they would go their separate ways, with Amelie Mauresmo having replaced the Lendl full-time after a successful short-term stint.
Now, Lendl has explained the reasoning behind his departure. "I didn't feel I could give Andy the time that he needed. There was nothing else. Even 20 weeks was going to be hard for me and he needed even more than that.
"I'm glad Andy found Amelie who can give him the time he needs," added Lendl, who did not rule out a return to coaching himself, saying: "Maybe eventually but it has to fit right."
