Colin Calderwood is the favourite to be appointed as the new manager of Carlisle United, after the Sky Bet League 2 club elected to dismiss Graham Kavanagh.

Calderwood - who endured an unsuccessful spell in charge of Hibernian three years ago - has been without a job since being sacked as assistant coach to Chris Hughton at Norwich City in April. He faces competition for the post at Brunton Park from Willie McStay, who was most recently the head coach of Carlisle-based non-league club Celtic Nation.
