A Celtic side made up of fringe players went down 4-2 to Villarreal in Spain last night as Gerard scored four second-half goals.

Celtic had led 2-0 at half-time through a Biram Kayal header and a 30-yard drive by Jo Inge Berget, before both sides embarked on a clutch of changes.

Holmbert Fridjonsson, the striker allowed to join Brondby on loan, scored twice as Iceland Under-21s beat Armenia 4-0. Per Rud, the Brondby sporting director, has confirmed that his club hope to sign the player on a permanent deal in May, should he impress this season.
