Mo Farah will take part in his first cross country race for five years when he begins his Olympic year with an appearance in the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country on January 9.

Farah will head to the Scottish capital for his first competition of a year in which he hopes to successfully defend his 5000m and 10,000m titles in Rio.

The 32-year-old claimed his first international athletics title when he won the European cross country crown in Italy in 2006.

Farah said: "It will be an important year for me in 2016 and I'm looking forward to returning to the Great Edinburgh Cross Country to kick off my season.

"For many years cross country was a key building block for the year ahead and I'm pleased to add it to my schedule for the first time since I ran in Edinburgh back in 2011."
