Erik Sviatchenko became the latest addition to Celtic’s ranks last night when the Danish defender completed a £1.5m move from FC Midtylland but the Parkhead club are closing in on a deal for another Danish star with talks underway with creative midfielder Rasmus Falk.
The Odense Boldklu player is out of contract this summer and has attracted the attention of a number of German clubs as well as French side Lille and Swedish side Malmo, who put Celtic out of the UEFA Champions League at the qualifying stages last summer.
The 24-year-old has had a successful season in his homeland this term, prompting interest from various quarters but his agent, Mads Bach Lunds, claimed this weekend that Celtic are the frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature.
With Falk’s contract due to expire it is believed that Celtic would get the player for a minimal fee – and would be able to get him in now in order to bed him into the squad ahead of the summer Champions League qualification games.
Sviatchenko, meanwhile, completed his switch to the Parkhead club last night.
The player has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Celtic and Ronny Deila will draw some satisfaction at landing a player whom he tried to sign this summer.
“I am so happy to join Celtic, such a fantastic club and such a huge name in football. This is a club with a wonderful pedigree and a massive support.
“I will do everything I can to bring success to Celtic. It means so much to me to join a winning club, to join a club that goes for and wins trophies and wants to play in the Champions League.
“I have had a taste of winning with Midtjylland and I want more of this feeling at Celtic. When you play football, you want to be remembered for winning and I want to be remembered as a winner with Celtic.
“I know we have a squad of really talented players and I can’t wait to get started, team up with them and get to work.”
Meanwhile, Anthony Stokes is expected to formalise his loan deal to Hibs this week. The Irish internationalist has been out of favour at Celtic this season but Deila has insisted that the door remains open to him if he can go out and impress elsewhere by getting first-team football under his belt.
