KENNY MILLER says Rangers are aiming to win the Premiership title next season because the club demands it.

The veteran striker helped the Light Blues to the Championship crown in 2015/16 after scoring 14 league goals, and he believes that the Ibrox club's ambition in the transfer market shows they are aiming for the top.

Matt Gilks, Niko Kranjcar, Clint Hill, Joey Barton, Matt Crooks, Josh Windass and Jordan Rossiter have all joined Mark Warburton's squad this summer and Miller says there is now an expectation that they should challenge Celtic.

The 36-year-old told the Rangers website: “There’s one thing to have the aim, and there is another thing to actually do it. It’s an expectation here, it’s a demand. The Herald: Rangers striker Kenny Miller

“It’s not ‘oh well, we want to do it’, we must do it, we have to go and win the league, we have to be successful because this club demands it.

“The manager and Davie [Weir] demand it every single day from us in training, so every player needs to have that mindset.

"The manager was quoted a lot last season saying that second is nothing here, we need to go and win the league.

“If we don’t, we need to go and at least mount the best challenge we can and be the best we can every single game that we are going to play.

"I think with the squad we had last year we were in a good place.

“With the right additions in the right positions then I have always said we would have an opportunity to challenge this year because there is no other goal. The Herald: 23/04/16 LADBROKES CHAMPIONSHIP . RANGERS v ALLOA (1-1) . IBROX - GLASGOW . Rangers striker Kenny Miller . ** ROTA IMAGE **.

"It’s not a case of consolidation, it’s not a case of top six or European football, it’s win the league is the goal.

“So I think the signings we have made and the work we have done so far is a real sign that that is going to be the case.

“The levels that these guys have played at all through their careers, even the younger lads the clubs they have played for.

“Jordan (Rossiter) playing for Liverpool and the education he is going to have had at that football club, I think it’s only going to stand us in good stead for the season up and coming.”
