ICELAND have lit up Euro 2016 with their against-the-odds run to the quarter-final that included a shock 2-1 win over England on Monday.

One of the most eye-catching elements of their campaign has been the impressive, boisterous support they have received from a nation of only 330,000 people.

This has been underlined by a chant that has been described as a 'Viking war cry', where supporters give a synchronised clap and shout 'HUH' in a steady crescendo.

But Iceland's fans have now admitted that this iconic celebration isn't theirs at all - in fact, it was began in the unlikely surroundings of Motherwell.

Icelandic club Stjarnan travelled to Fir Park for a Europa League qualifier in 2014, when they first heard the 'Well support performing the chant.

After asking permission to use it for the national team, it took off and has become a memorable part of their European Championships campaign.

Our friends at Iceland Monitor have helped tell the story of the chant's journey from Motherwell to the Stade de France via Reykjavik - have a watch above.
