An indication of how competitive the Championship is likely to be this season is given by the fact that, after two games, only two teams have unblemished records.

Hibernian's start was not unexpected but leaders Raith Rovers are intent on mounting a challenge after a flawless start under Gary Locke.

Borrowed striker Declan McManus hit two goals - his first for the club - in the 3-1 home win over St Mirren and is intent on adding to that tally over the weeks ahead.

"Two goals - I think I could have scored about eight today," he said afterwards.

"It was just one of these days. I got the first goal then a few more chances came my way but if I was given 20 chances every week and scored two then I'd be happy with that.

"It's all about not being afraid to get into position - as long as you keep doing that then the chances will come.

"For the second goal, I saw Andy Webster pulling back as if he was leaving the ball for Jamie Langfield but Jamie wasn't coming for it so I nipped in and took my chance.

"It's great to get my first goal for the club. In the past three games, I've hit the post and created a couple of goals but I always knew it would come and I didn't put too much pressure on myself.

"I had a few one-on-ones with Jamie today - he's not a bad goalkeeper in these situations. I trained with him a lot when I was at Aberdeen but I think today it was more about my finishing than anything else.

"I'm pleased at the partnership I'm creating with Lewis Vaughan up front. He's very intelligent on the ball and a brilliant guy for someone like me to play alongside."

Raith's former manager Ray McKinnon is not enjoying the same success after his Dundee United team lost 1-0 at Dumbarton, Mark Docherty scoring the only goal from the penalty spot. "We need to learn quickly and adapt to this league," he pointed out.

Derek Lyle netted twice as Queen of the South defeated Ayr United 4-1 at Palmerston Park but the match was closer than the scoreline suggested.

Morton were unhappy at Luke Leahy's injury-time equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Cappielow, claiming the player used a hand. It cancelled out Lee Kilday's first-half strike after a blunder by Falkirk's stand-in goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet.
