March 2007 - After an 18-month absence, and just weeks after leading Hibs to a 5-1 League Cup win against Kilmarnock, Brown makes his first start for his country - under the management of Alex McLeish. He performs creditably, but the end result is a 2-0 defeat to Italy in Bari.
September 2007 - Stationed in front of Alan Hutton, a snarling performance from Brown, shortly after his £4.5m move to Celtic, against the likes of Florent Malouda and Franck Ribery helps Scotland record an unlikely 1-0 defeat against the French in Paris.
October 2007 - Keeps Scotland's qualifying chances bubbling with 3-1 win against Ukraine at Hampden but, along with Hutton and Lee McCulloch or Rangers, pulls out of the 2-0 defeat to Georgia in midweek. All three play an Old Firm match the following Saturday, with Rangers winning 3-0.
November 2007 - Withdrawn for Kenny Miller with 15 minutes remaining with the score at 1-1 as Scotland vainly chase the goal against Italy at Hampden which would have taken us to Euro 2008. Instead, it is the Italians who score late on, condemning the campaign to failure.
March 2009 - Plays in the 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands in Amsterdam, then mentioned in dispatches as Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor become embroiled in the drinking episode which became known as 'Boozegate'. November 2015 - Last competitive match for Scotland comes to an end when being replaced by Darren Fletcher just after the hour mark during the 6-0 win against minnows Gibraltar in Faro.

August 2016 - Announces his retirement from international football aged 31 despite a recent purple patch at club level at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
