ARSENAL midfielder Aaron Ramsey has not been called up to the Wales squad for their opening World Cup qualifier due to injury.

The 25-year-old played a starring role for Chris Coleman’s side during their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 earlier this summer, but he is still struggling with a hamstring problem he picked up on the opening weekend of the Premier League season against Liverpool.

Wales begin their bid to reach the 2018 World Cup in Russia on Monday 5 September when they host Moldova in Cardiff.

Coleman must also do without Jonny Williams of Crystal Palace, as he has suffered an ankle injury.

There are recalls for Leicester forward Tom Lawrence, Newcastle defender Paul Dummett and Emyr Huws of Cardiff City after all three were left out of the Euros squad.

Inverness goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams is the only Scottish Premiership representative to be selected, but former Aberdeen loan stars Danny Ward and Simon Church have made the squad.
