EDINBURGH'S new head coach Duncan Hodge has made five changes for his second game in charge against fellow strugglers Treviso.

The former Scotland international took over from Alan Solomons on a temporary basis last month after the South African resigned following a poor start to the season.

Hodge couldn't provide an instant turnaround as his team fell to a 28-15 defeat to defending champions Connacht last weekend and he has rung the changes for Friday's basement battle.

Blair Kinghorn comes in at full-back in the place of Glenn Bryce to make his first start of the season, while Tom Brown starts on the wing with Michael Allen moved to outside centre ahead of Solomoni Rasolea.

Ewan McQuillin replaces the injured WP Nel at tighthead, with Hamish Watson and Nasi Manu also handed starts in a new-look back row.

Scotland fly-half Duncan Weir is a notable absentee as he recovers from a fractured jaw that could keep him out of the upcoming Autumn Tests.

Edinburgh and their Italian visitors have both recorded only one league win so far this season, leaving the capital club 12 points adrift of the top six after five rounds.

Hodge said: “It’s been a difficult week with changes being brought in on a number of levels, but the players have been extremely positive in their reaction and trained well this week.

“Technical aspects of the game let us down last week but our desire and commitment was outstanding. We have looked to address the technicalities in training and hope to see an improvement in what is a huge game for the club on Friday.

“Treviso are a strong outfit and will pose a tough challenge but we’re looking forward to getting back in front of a home crowd at BT Murrayfield and putting in a big performance for our supporters.

“We see this game as a chance to get back to winning ways before we head into the first rounds of European rugby.”
