SCOTS quartet Grant Sheldon, Marc Austin, Alison Patrick and Hazel Smith have all been given places on British Triathlon’s Lottery-funded squad for 2017.

Stirling-based Sheldon, who came fourth on his World Series debut in Edmonton, keeps his place on the second-tier Podium Potential list while his training partner Austin, the former world junior silver medallist, has also been retained despite missing most of the season.

Patrick and Smith, who teamed up to win PT5 Paratriathlon silver at the Paralympic Games in Rio, are in the elite world-class performance squad.

The top tier includes Olympic medallists Alistair and Jonny Brownlee and Vicky Holland, along with Nairn-born former world champion Helen Jenkins.

“This allows us to support a group of athletes who are targeting Tokyo and or the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” performance director Brendan Purcell said. “Several athletes have left the programme, but are continuing to compete in triathlon, and we wish them all the best.

“Our Paratriathlon roster will be added to. For now it features the key performers from Rio. Following the summer successes, we are currently working on developing a strong talent pathway to bring more para-triathletes through to world class level.”
