TIMISOARA Saracens have been fined and forfeited the match points after failing to provide a playable pitch for their Challenge Cup game against Stade Francais last week. An independent disciplinary decided that the Romanian club, who visit Edinburgh in the same competition tomorrow, did not make adequate preparations for the game, which was called off when the surface was deemed unplayable.

Stade have been awarded the game 28-0, meaning they pick up five points, while Timisoara have been fined £26,000. The decision has no direct effect on Edinburgh, who will progress to the quarter-finals as Pool Five winners if they win the match at Myreside, but it means Stade could join them in the last eight if they beat Harlequins, who are currently two points ahead of them. If Timisoara exercise their right to appeal, however, confirmation of the quarter-finalists will be delayed.
