Scott Allan could still have a future at Rotherham, just a week after Millers interim manager Paul Warne admitted that the on loan Celtic midfielder was heading for the exit door.

Warne has been impressed with the 25-year-old’s application in training this week and plans to include Allan in the squad for this weekend’s Championship clash with Newcastle United.

Allan has not played for relegation-threatened Rotherham since the October 15 defeat to Norwich City after then manager Alan Stubbbs, who worked with the player at Hibs, questioned the playmaker’s commitment.

But after admitting last week that he expected Allan’s season-long loan to be cut short this month, Warne insists Allan could still remain at the New York stadium.

He said: “We did some shape on Tuesday and he was the outstanding player on the pitch.

“I’ve spoken to him and he can compete for a place.

“If he knuckles down and plays like that going forward he can play a part. He’s an outstanding talent on the ball.

“When he loses it he gets frustrated with himself. If he can want to win it back he can be really useful for us.

“I’d like to think after our conversation that he sees this as an opportunity. It’s a chance to show us what he can do.”
