KENNY Miller last night revealed that talks about his contract extension had been put on hold while Rangers search for a replacement for Mark Warburton as manager.

Miller’s current deal at Ibrox runs out in the summer and initial discussions had taken place between his representative and club officials over him signing a new one.

The former Scotland striker, who turned 37 in December, has been superb for the Ladbrokes Premiership club once again this season and has scored nine goals.

However, the 69-times capped forward stressed that his future would only be sorted out when an interim manager had been brought in.

“That (his contract extension) has been put on the back burner at the moment,” said Miller. “The club have got bigger things to sort out at the moment.

“Any new negotiations or decisions based on players takes a bit of a back seat. It is definitely secondary to us finding a new manager.”

Miller is doing his coaching qualifications and has been helping out with the Rangers Under-20 team at Auchenhowie this season.

He has been tipped to take a role in a new management team, but stressed that he was concentrating fully on playing and intended to keep doing that for the foreseeable future.

“I definitely see my future being in a coaching position like that,” said Miller. “But for me at the moment my sole focus is on three points away to Dundee on Sunday.

“I have said all along, and you speak to any ex-player or older player and they will all tell you the same thing, that I want to play as long as I can.

“The way I feel at the moment, I have no thoughts about making that transition in the immediate future. I will do, there is no doubt I will do, but it is definitely too early for me at the moment.”
