CRAIG GORDON (6): Stood tall to deny Bezjak after he had sprung offside trap, but very little else to do.
KIERAN TIERNEY (7): Deployed in unfamiliar right-back role and as such was forced to come inside, but defended well and got forward when he could. Won intriguing battle with Bezjak who was subbed after an hour.
RUSSELL MARTIN (6): Had early volley saved by Oblak before meeting another Snodgrass corner with a header that found the net only for the referee to disallow for a push. Was less sure at the other end though, and careless in possession at times.
CHARLIE MULGREW (6): Steady enough performance from the big defender, and was on the mark more often than not when asked to hit it long in the second half.
ANDY ROBERTSON (7): Brilliant tracking back early on to snuff out Slovenian counter attack and offered a good outlet going the other way.
SCOTT BROWN (6): Captain battled away in the middle of the park and although not at his influential best, gave no quarter. Some wayward passing late on when a calm head was required.
JAMES MORRISON (8): Cracked a rocket of a shot inches wide then had a header cleared off the line by Birsa. Calming influence in the middle of the park and always tidy in possession.
JAMES FORREST (7): Drew early booking from Jokic and looked good when he had the ball, the problem was that he just didn’t have it enough. Tried hard to create and never gave in.
ROBERT SNODGRASS (6): Cracking corner set up early chance for Martin and set-piece deliveries were generally very good. Looked to visibly tire early in the second half though and became wasteful before being replaced.
STUART ARMSTRONG (8): Made huge difference to the Scotland side, with his running from midfield forcing Slovenia to sit deep. Great run and pass to set up Griffiths chance in a brilliant first-half performance. Drifted out of the game after the interval as Scots went more direct, but came up with brilliant assist when it mattered.
LEIGH GRIFFITHS (6): Missed a sitter when crashing off the bar from close range before cracking the post with a great first-time effort moments later. Luckless night ended just after half-time as he failed to shake off a knee in the back from Oblak.
SUBSTITUTES
STEVEN NAISMITH (6): On for Griffiths just after the break and got some joy in the air against the much taller Cesar and Samardzic.
IKECHI ANYA (5): Passed up glorious opportunity with his first touch after replacing Snodgrass, side-footing tamely at Oblak.
CHRIS MARTIN (7): Cometh the hour, cometh the Martin. Thrown on for last 10 minutes and got the crucial winner with three remaining, keeping his composure to finish brilliantly across Oblak and in off the far post.
