At this stage of the season, it comes down to who needs it more.

Just four points separate the bottom four clubs in the Championship and Raith Rovers, as the only team to win on Saturday, will feel they gained the most.

Ross Matthews, who scored the second goal in the 2-0 home win over Morton, certainly had a day to remember.

Not only did his goal cement the victory after Craig Barr's first-half header but he was named man-of-the-match by the sponsors, something he had an inkling might happen.

"We definitely needed the three points," he pointed out.

"All of the players were saying beforehand that we had to work hard to grind out a win and it didn't matter how we did it.

"It was a real worry when we saw St Mirren had won in midweek but we expected it as they'd been flying recently. Having said that, we knew that whatever happened we were going to have to start winning games anyway.

"It looks like it's all going to come down to the last two or three games of the season but we always knew that was likely to be the case.

"It was great to get a goal - I had a feeling I'd score as I had been told I'd be playing higher up the pitch.

"It was only my second goal for the club and I couldn't have picked a better day as my whole family was here and I got the man of the match award but, having said that, it was my dad who was the match sponsor!"

Raith are just a point ahead of St Mirren and Dumbarton after their two rivals had contrasting fortunes.

Dumbarton lost 2-0 at home to Dunfermline Athletic with Rhys McCabe and David Hopkirk scoring late goals but much-improved St Mirren forced a 2-2 draw at Falkirk.

St Mirren manager Jack Ross admitted he was disappointed not to collect three points but was happy with "another small step forward for us."

Rory Loy and Stephen McGinn were on target for St Mirren with Falkirk counting through Lee Miller and substitute Bob McHugh.

Falkirk booked their play-off place with the point but Morton still need to take something to secure their place in the top four.

Ayr United remain bottom after a barren 0-0 draw at home to Dundee United, who secured the necessary point to secure a play-off slot.

Ian McCall, the Ayr manager, viewed it as two points lost with Gary Harkins hitting the crossbar in injury-time from a free-kick.

"At this time of the season it doesn't matter who you play - whether it's Hibs, Dundee United, Dumbarton or St Mirren - it's all about winning ang getting the points," he assessed.
