Hearts are considering introducing safe standing at Tynecastle after assessing Celtic’s modern-day ‘terrace’ on Sunday.

A delegation from the Gorgie outfit, including chief operating officer Scot Gardiner, spent time looking at the near-3,000 capacity section of Parkhead ahead of the team’s 2-0 defeat to the treble-chasing champions.

Celtic introduced the popular area, which has so-called ‘rail seating’ that can be easily switched between seats and a terrace, in July last year in a move that followed the success at clubs in Germany, including Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Aberdeen revealed last year they hoped to include safe standing in their proposed new stadium on the outskirts of the city, whilst there has been a groundswell of support amongst fans for the development throughout the UK.

Hearts are currently in the process of redeveloping their main stand at Tynecastle, with the new £12 million structure due to be operational a few weeks into next season.

However, it is thought the Jambos are looking at an area of the Gorgie Stand should they decide to go ahead with introducing safe standing at the ground.
