CELTIC’S teenage full-back Kieran Tierney ran through hordes of Aberdeen fans outside Hampden as he fought his way back into the stadium for the Scottish Cup presentation.

Details emerged yesterday afternoon of the journey the young Scotland internationalist is believed to have taken on foot as he pushed his way through the exiting Aberdeen crowds in order to get his hands on the coveted Scottish Cup.

The 19-year-old is believed to have fractured his jaw, with Brendan Rodgers revealing after the game that the defender expects to require surgery after a tooth went through his upper palate when he was caught by Aberdeen forward Jayden Stockley.

Tierney was taken to hospital after the game for treatment – but was determined to get back to Hampden for the presentation. Given strong painkillers, he was driven back to the national stadium just as Tom Rogic had scored the winning goal.

As Aberdeen fans poured out of the exits and flooded the car park and roads surrounding Hampden, police refused to allow Tierney, accompanied by a member of Celtic’s medical staff, to drive through believing it was too dangerous given the number of surrounding pedestrians.

Tierney left the vehicle on foot and hoofed it back through the crowds, still in boots and full Celtic kit, to ensure that he was there when the cup was handed out. He was given a rousing reception when he raced up the steps to lift the trophy with an emotional display towards the Celtic support.
