RANGERS target Carlos Pena is on the verge of securing a move to Ibrox, according to Chivas coach Matias Almeyda.

The Mexico international has been linked with a switch to Scotland to team up with Pedro Caixinha after spending the 2017 season on loan at Leon.

Almeyda is resigned to losing the 27-year-old, nicknamed 'Gullit' after Dutch legend Ruud, and believes the transfer will help his player's development.

He told Marca Claro: "I think it's almost closed, 'Gullit' is going to be sold to Scottish football and hopefully he can have the experience of playing in another league and in another country.

"It will help him a lot to grow as a player and as a person."

The central midfielder has spent his entire club career in his home country, but has earned 19 caps for his country including a substitute appearance in the 3-1 win over Croatia at the 2014 World Cup.
