DUNDEE UNITED midfielder Willo Flood insists promotion is the only thing on his mind after signing a new one-year deal at Tannadice.

The experienced former Celtic and Aberdeen player, who is in his fourth spell at United, was part of the side that was defeated in last season’s play-off final to Hamilton.

Flood has put pen to paper on a 12-month extension just two days after the versatile Stewart Murdoch penned a new two-year contract.

The Irishman admits his sole focus is on guiding the Tayside club back to the top-flight. He said: “I enjoy being a United player and I am determined to get this club into the Premiership

“I am happy to have signed a new contract and now want to focus on ensuring promotion this year.”

Flood made 46 appearances last term and manager Ray McKinnon insists the 32-year-old is a role model on and off the pitch.

McKinnon, who has already added James Keatings, Billy King and Tam Scobbie to his squad, said: “Willo’s ability is there for everyone to see but he has shown, time and again, his leadership and work ethic are right up there and were an important reason for the decision to offer him another year.

“The signings we have already brought to the club and the players I am currently pursuing are all strong characters alongside their ability.

“And it was important that we kept hold of players like Willo, who’s already brought a strong mentality to the dressing room.

“It will be important that I know every player can impact the game when called upon and, with Willo I know that to be the case.”
