The new season is two games old after the Betfred Cup group stages kicked into life last week.

Here, we take a group-by-group look at who have been the winners and losers so far before the action continues with a repeat of the 2015 final between Ross County and Hibernian on Friday evening.

GROUP A

Inverness Caledonian Thistle sit atop Group A despite being held to a goalless draw by Stirling Albion on Tuesday.

The Highland outfit came away with a bonus point after a 2-0 triumph in the shoot-out, adding to a comfortable 3-0 dispatch of Brechin City on Saturday.

However, Falkirk can displace John Robertson’s men when the two sides meet at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium on Saturday, following on from their 4-1 mauling of Stirling Albion last weekend.

GROUP B

Dunfermline took pole position in Group B after a 9-8 shoot-out win over East Fife earned them a vital bonus point.

Kyle Lafferty scored on his Hearts debut to spare his new manager’s blushes against Elgin City as the Premiership side laboured past the Moray minnows.

A victory puts Ian Cathro’s side level on points with Peterhead and they next host East Fife on Saturday.

GROUP C

Three first-half goals sent Dundee United to the top of Group C as they swept aside Buckie Thistle on Wednesday.

Ray McKinnon’s men next host second-placed Cowdenbeath as they look to maintain a 100% record.

Neighbours Dundee will expect to recover ground on their rivals when they take on winless Buckie on Saturday.

GROUP D

Ross County have impressed thus far in the Betfred Cup, finding the net eight times and keeping two clean sheets as they adjust to life after Liam Boyce.

The Highlanders next face Hibernian who can join them on six points with a victory when the teams meet on Saturday.

Neil Lennon’s men routed Montrose last time out with new man Simon Murray netting a brace.

GROUP E

Ayr United continued their impressive start in Group E with a 3-1 away win at Dumbarton, consolidating a derby triumph over Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock came from behind to overcome 10-man Clyde at Rugby Park in a six-goal thriller on Tuesday.

Clyde now face an uphill battle to progress to the latter rounds, but can mount a challenge by defeating Dumbarton on Saturday.

GROUP F

Greenock Morton’s shoot-out victory over Queen’s Park sends them top of Group F after they rescued a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Gus McPherson’s men were moments away from claiming all three points at Cappielow, and next face Edinburgh City who overcame Berwick Rangers in yet another shoot-out.

Group favourites Motherwell can retake pole position when they welcome Jim Duffy’s Morton to Fir Park on Saturday.

Group G

Queen of the South lead Group H despite missing out on a potentially vital bonus point against East Kilbride.

They next travel to Hamilton knowing that a defeat will see their opponents replace them at the top of the table.

Elsewhere, Stenhousemuir host East Kilbride who are still searching for their first victory in the competition.

GROUP H

David Hopkin’s Livingston shocked St Mirren on Tuesday to take top spot in Group H.

The Championship newcomers showed their credentials with an impressive 1-0 victory, following on from their draw with Partick Thistle.

Two of Scotland’s brightest young managers are set to meet at the weekend as Alan Archibald’s Thistle and Jack Ross’ Saint Mirren collide at Firhill.
