Ryan Christie could scarcely believe the performance he was a part of as Aberdeen exited the Betfred Cup with a whimper at the hands of Motherwell on Thursday night, and he has vowed to put things right when he and his devastated team-mates return to the scene of the crime this afternoon.

"It is unlike us and the gaffer has told us that,” said Christie following their 3-0 defeat. “That's not in our make-up. We need to change that and change it fast.

“If we get outplayed then fair enough, but we don't get bullied off the ball and people don't run more than us or fight more than us. It's a reality we need to look at very quickly and change very quickly.

"We will have a different attitude going into Sunday's game, that's for sure. We will be making sure that we are up for the battle.

“We’re disappointed and frustrated because we know we are so much better than that. For the kind of team we are, the only good parts of the game we had were so sporadic that we had no chance. They were the better team, you can't take anything away from them.

"We knew before the game it was going to be aggressive, it was going to be tough. They have a certain way of playing and we didn't face up to that.

"I wouldn't say we were dominated physically, but they seemed to pick up second balls, which is something you can't really have an excuse for, that just comes down to your attitude on the night.

“We're gutted with each other and ourselves, we will definitely be looking to bounce back. I would say it's a good thing to be coming back so soon. I am sure we will have a fire in our bellies and will want to right our wrongs. I know that's us out the cup but it's a chance to get a wee one back on them and that's what we will be looking to do.”
