ANDERLECHT manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck has conceded it will be “almost impossible” to beat Celtic into third spot in the Champions League now.
While Celtic were losing in Germany, the Belgian champions were being taken apart at home by a rampant PSG in a 4-0 defeat.
With the Scottish champions having already pocketing a 3-0 win in
Brussels, Anderlecht would need to go to Parkhead and record a similar thumping win to be in with a chance of third spot, assuming they don’t spring a huge surprise in the remaining games against Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
And new manager Vanhaezebrouck has accepted they will almost certainly finish bottom of the pile and miss out on parachuting into the Europa League.
He said: “I was not the manager at the time when we played Celtic, but I was disappointed that Anderlecht lost 3-0.
“It’s going to be very difficult to get past Celtic and to win in Glasgow with a 4-0 victory. In fact, it is almost impossible.
“The players made a mistake against Celtic with their mentality. They are better now.
“But that was back then and we have to look forward. We have to try and get points off of Bayern or PSG in the other two games.
“This is not easy, but we have to believe in ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Anderlecht veteran Olivier Deschacht had no complaints about being demolished at home by PSG.
He said: “We tried everything, but we lost against a better team, but we showed a lot of courage.”
