GRAEME MURTY looks set to remain in charge of Rangers for their double-header with Aberdeen this week as the Ibrox board continue their search for Pedro Caixinha’s successor.

The 43-year-old was handed the reins following the sacking of Caixinha last month and led the Gers to wins over Hearts and Partick Thistle in his first two matches before the international break.

But he has suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premiership as his side have lost to Hamilton and Dundee in recent days to leave Rangers fourth in the top flight standings and well off the pace being set by Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Light Blues hierarchy have yet to appoint a permanent successor to Caixinha and Murty is now likely to be the man in charge for both meetings with the Dons this week.

Derek McInnes’ side will make the trip to Ibrox on Wednesday night second in the table and six points clear of the Gers following their win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park yesterday.

The Pittodrie boss echoed the comments of chairman Stewart Milne ahead of the Killie clash as he attempted to put an end to talk of a potential return to his former club.

And it will be Murty that McInnes goes head-to-head with at Ibrox as he looks to record a second consecutive win over the Gers following the 2-1 success in May that ended the Dons’ long wait for a victory in Govan.

Murty called on his players to show the right reaction in the aftermath of the poor display at Dens Park and the Under-20s boss will get the chance to make amends on the eve of the Light Blues’ Annual General Meeting.

Chairman Dave King will lead his board at the shareholder summit in Glasgow on Thursday morning and the topic of who the next man at the helm will be is likely to dominate the agenda.

Director of Football Mark Allen is overseeing the search for Caixinha’s replacement but Rangers have yet to name their man more than four weeks on from the decision to dismiss the Portuguese after a shocking start to the season.

Murty has previously insisted that he will continue to carry out his duties at first team level for as long as he is required as the process continues behind the scenes at Auchenhowie.

And with the hunt for the next manager still ongoing, it is more than likely that he will find himself back in the dugout at Pittodrie this weekend for the second match of a double-header that could have a major bearing on Rangers’ bid to finish best of the rest in the Premiership this term.
