You have probably got more chance of seeing Pedro Caixinha in the Illustrated Guide to Rangers Greats than you have of glimpsing Eduardo Herrera on the team lines.

The Mexican striker, who was one of the erstwhile Rangers manager’s marquee signings in the summer, has made just one start for the Govan club.

Having cost £1.5 million, it’s hardly been one of the most rewarding investments and Herrera knows he has a lot to do to justify the hefty price tag.

Whether he gets that chance remains to be seen and the dismissal of the man who brought him from Mexico to Glasgow has only heightened the sense of uncertainty.

Herrera remains determined to make an impact, though.

“I’m aware that I haven’t shown what I am capable of but sometimes it is really difficult when you don’t have the minutes to show it,” said the 29-year-old.

“When you have five, three or one minute to come on in a game, it’s hard. Hopefully I can get a proper game soon and show what I can do.

“You always have to work hard with all the managers you have and Graeme [Murty] has given me confidence. He’s shown that he likes me.

“Maybe he doesn’t know me that much, that’s why I haven’t had a proper start, but he always takes me into consideration for the games and I have been a sub in many games. But I came here to get more minutes and I’m looking forward to getting that.

“The important thing here is not to be down, but to keep working hard and have the mentality and the patience to reverse these kind of situations.

“I’ve played for many years and I have turned around situations like this before, so I’m just waiting for the opportunity and working really hard to get that opportunity to get more minutes and be an important player.”
