ALFREDO MORELOS has reiterated his desire to test himself in the Premier League as he sets his sights on a World Cup spot with Colombia.
The striker the was subject of sustained interest from Chinese Super League side Beijing Renhe last month.
But Rangers rejected a series of bids – the last of which was around £8million – for their prized asset as boss Graeme Murty insisted he was under no financial pressure to sell.
Morelos netted his 16th goal of the campaign in the win over Hamilton last weekend and his fine form has attracted admiring glances away from Ibrox this term.
Rangers are likely to face a fight to retain his services at the end of the campaign and it is a switch south of the border that would appeal most to the 21-year-old.
Morelos said: "I play in a country very close to the English Premier League and I think that many teams are watching me. So I am very happy with what I am doing right now.
"I have a positive mentality and if a team in England showed serious interest in me, it would be very exciting."
Boss Graeme Murty has urged Morelos to use the remaining weeks of the season to earn himself a place in the Colombian World Cup squad this summer.
The striker has yet to be capped at full international level for his country but he hasn’t given up hope of earning a seat on the plane to Russia.
Morelos said: "I am happy at Rangers and satisfied with how I am playing.
"Scottish football is very quick. You have no time on the ball, it's very physical and the ball is in the air a lot.
"The fans are passionate and Scottish football is intense.
"My ambition is to play for my country and I need to keep doing what I have been doing.
"So far, I have not had any communication from the coaching staff of the Colombia team, but I hope I will. I want to put Colombia on the map in European football."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
