Scott Fraser last night vowed to help Dundee United secure their play-off target after completing his remarkable recovery.
Fans’ favourite Fraser is fit again having been told his season was over back in late December when he hobbled off with a recurring foot injury in a 2-0 defeat at league leaders St Mirren.
But the inspirational midfielder is back again ahead of schedule having defied the medics and insists he’s ready to push Csaba Laszlo’s men towards the play-offs as they languish 19 points behind Champions-elect Saints.
Fraser, who is in line for a start in tonight’s home clash with Queen of the South, said: “It’s been very frustrating for me.
“It’s going to be hard playing Saturday and then Tuesday every week from now on.
“But it’s up to me now to try and play my part.
“Of course, I’m looking at it in a positive way with all these games coming up.
“I’m feeling a lot better although it will take me time to get back to full fitness.
“There are ten or so games left for me to show the gaffer that I’m back and should be playing.
“My aim is to get back to showing the sort form I was showing before which is a challenge I’m looking forward to.
“We’ve got games in hand over Livingston so second place has got to be a realistic target for us.
"We want to win all our home games and we've got another one coming up against Dunfermline at the weekend, so it's an important time."
Meanwhile, Tannadice gaffer Laszlo is thrilled to have Fraser back as they bid to finish the season with a flurry.
Laszlo said: “I’m so happy that Scott is back. He’s himself again being noisy and is a very good player.
“With so many games coming up he will definitely get game-time.
“For us, we need to aim for as high as possible now in the play-offs.
“We know that’s the case and that’s what we’re striving for.
“Queen of the South will not be easy even though we beat them 3-1 down there last week.
“To be honest, we will need to be at our best again to beat them because they are not a bad team at all.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
