SCOTLAND women's captain Rachel Corsie has signed for United States club Utah Royals. The 28-year-old central defender previously spent three seasons with Seattle Reign and rejoins head coach Laura Harvey in Salt Lake City.

The 2018 National Women's Soccer League starts this weekend, with new franchise Utah replacing Kansas City in the top American women's division.

“I've played in the NWSL for the last three years and it's an extremely tough league,” former Glasgow City captain Corsie said. “I'm going to bring some of that toughness into the season.”

The Aberdonian will be included on Wednesday in Shelley Kerr's squad for the 2019 World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland on April 5 and Poland five days later. She has been training with Utah as a “non-roster invitee” after recovering from knee surgery.

“Adding someone of Rachel's experience and quality to our roster is important as we grow the foundation for this franchise,” Harvey said.

“Rachel's knowledge of my set-up from our time in Seattle is key, as is her unflappable attitude and Scotland international experience.”

Utah's first NWSL game is against Orlando Pride on Saturday. The head coach of the Florida club is former Albion Rovers and Dunfermline player Tom Sermanni.
