Joe Lewis: Had every reason to ask questions of those charged with putting up a defensive line front of him. He was left exposed at Motherwell’s first half double whammy and his distribution was dicey at times 6

Dominic Ball: Forgot to heed the old phrase that gets drummed into you at under-12s level: play to the whistle. Caught appealing instead of defending and allowed Richard Tait to set up Motherwell’s opening goal. A ghastly day all round and was hooked on the hour 4

Kari Arnason: Part of a shoogly backline that hardly covered itself in glory. Muscled out of a contest with the burly Ryan Bowman which led to Motherwell’s second goal before his attempted clearance set up the third goal. A lamentable, forgettable afternoon 4

Andy Considine: The post mortem will be a grim affair and Derek McInnes must have been scratching his head like Stan Laurel trying to work out a cryptic crossword as he tried to fathom out why his defenders simply crumbled under the Motherwell raids 5

Anthony O’Connor: His most telling move of the afternoon was forlornly attempting to retrieve the ball from up Curtis Main’s shirt as the Motherwell man celebrated scoring their third goal which put the match to bed. Won't be keen on watching the highlights again 5

Scott McKenna: Like those around him, McKenna never looked comfortable as Motherwell’s up and at ‘em approach caused panic in the rearguard. They knew what to expect but couldn’t deal with it. His sliced clearance played a part in Motherwell’s second goal 5

Chidiebere Nwakali: Struggled to make any impact in the midst of a fairly frenetic battle and limped off near half-time. Nwakali’s day was summed up by the fact that his replacement, Gary Mackay-Steven, did more in the two minutes after coming on 4

Ryan Christie: Showed flashes of purpose early on but struggled to establish a foothold in the game and, like many, his first touch hindered his progress. The presence of Motherwell’s Andy Rose also snuffed out his effectiveness 5

Greg Stewart: One of very few Aberdeen players to emerge with any credit. On his Hampden debut he tried his best to make things happen, especially in the first half, but with other players of experience and ability not showing up it was a sair fecht 6

Adam Rooney: The Motherwell keeper, Trevor Carson, barely had a save to make which was something of damning indictment of Aberdeen’s display. Rooney huffed and puffed and forced a good black from Carson as the Dons became ever more desperate. Replaced by Sam Cosgrove on 80 mins 5

Stevie May: Beetled about with his usual industry but was largely left to feed off scraps. When the opportunities came his way, he spurned them. The chance he was given on the stroke of half-time could have changed the complexion of the game but he flashed it across the goal 6

Substitutes

Gary Mackay-Steven: Made an immediate impact when thrust into action in the 43rd minute in place of the injured Nwakali. Delightful reverse pass set up May but the chance went abegging. Demonstrated the guile that Aberdeen were sorely lacking 6

Niall McGinn: Came on after 60 minutes to replace the embattled Dominic Ball but couldn’t inject the Aberdeen performance with any great vigour 4

Sam Cosgrove: Got a run out for the last 10 minutes as he came on for Adam Rooney but by then it was a hopelessly lost cause 4
