PAUL GASCOIGNE insists rookie Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will not fully understand the pressure of the Old Firm until he is immersed in the heat of battle.

Gazza has confessed he used to tease England team-mates Terry Butcher and Chris Woods when they spoke of the strain of playing for the Ibrox club.

However, he admits he soon found out what they were talking about when he became a Rangers player himself in 1995.

Gazza said: “Yes, there’s going to be pressure, because it’s Glasgow Rangers.

“I used to take the mickey out of Terry Butcher and Chris Woods, who had been at Rangers, and they would say ‘don’t mock it until you try it’.

“And I tried it and it is tough.

“But it’s a fantastic club and it’s great that they’ve got him on board.”
