RANGERS assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed he always believed he would end up working with his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard on the touchline.
The former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder was named as Gerrard's No.2 after the Reds legend's appointment to the Ibrox manager’s job last week.
Speaking about the appointment for the first time at a Liverpool fan event in Dubai, McAllister said: “First and foremost it’s a massive club. Steven asked me to come along as his assistant, so I’m very honoured that he asked me.
“I had a feeling, I didn’t say it’d be the Rangers job, but I had a feeling in my blood that sometime before we packed up football altogether that we’d work together at some time.
“And it’s happened at a great club in Glasgow. They’ve had a tough few seasons but hopefully we can go there and make a difference.”

McAllister, the 53-year-old former Scotland captain who was with Motherwell from 1981 to 1985 before heading south to represent Leicester City, Leeds United, Coventry City and Liverpool, has been working as a club ambassador for the Anfield club.
He said: “I’ve been cruising along here working for Liverpool as an ambassador, it’s very enjoyable. I’m meeting fans all over the world. But now I’m back at the coalface. I’m back working there with players – it’s what I know. I’m delighted to be working with Steven.”

Gerrard admitted that it had been “a bit of a whirlwind for myself and Gary” since the appointment at Rangers, where they take up official duties on June 1.
Gerrard added: “The opportunity came up in a managerial role to lead Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premiership – it’s obviously a very exciting opportunity for myself and Gary and the rest of the staff we’ll take with us and I’m really looking forward to the challenge. It’s big and it’s one that’s come really quickly since I started coaching and it’s one I’m looking forward to.”
