CELTIC defender Dedryck Boyata's World Cup place with Belgium was confirmed yesterday when a television company accidentally revealed a special mattress has been made for him ahead of the tournament in Russia.

Monday is the deadline for all the qualified countries to name their 23-man squad and Roberto Martinez, the Belgian head coach had said he would wait until then before announcing his final choices.

Boyata, 27, was reckoned to be one of those of the 28 players, currently at a training camp, who could be cut after the weekend.

However, it looks like it has already been revealed, in bizarre circumstances, that Boyata has made the squad because of a glaring error by a bedding company which was picked up on by TV.

Belgium have ordered specially designed mattresses for each player's personal height and weight so they can get the best possible sleep while in Russia.

A Belgian station did a feature on the mattresses being shipped to the hotel in Russia where they players will be based and during the filming, they noticed there were only 23 of them and each with their individual names on.

And Boyata's personalised mattress was there.

The five players who did not have a mattress specially designed for them - Leander Dendoncker, Jordan Lukaku, Matz Sels, Adnan Januzaj and Christian Kabasele - won't be on the final squad list.

Boyata spoke last week about how much making the squad would mean to him.

He said: "You hope, you cross your fingers, you pray.

"There's no point in me going back over the entire season and thinking about when I could have done better. It's up to the manager.

"To play in the World Cup is a dream I've had since I was a kid."

The Belgian FA have so far refused to comment on the incident.
