RANGERS midfielders Andy Halliday and Jason Holt are set to head up the Ibrox exodus this summer as Steven Gerrard continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Herald Sport understands Halliday and Holt have been told they will not be part of Gerrard's plans next season and will be allowed to leave the club.

The pair were key members of the side that lifted the Championship title under Mark Warburton and they are both under contract until the summer of 2020.

Halliday returned from a loan spell in Azerbaijan with Gabala during the January transfer window and made 15 appearances in the second half of the season, while Holt scored in the 5-5 draw with Hibernian on the final day of the campaign at Easter Road.

Neither have a long-term future at Ibrox, however, and they are likely to be amongst a host of departures as Gerrard puts his stamp on the group he has inherited following his appointment as boss.

The Liverpool legend returned to Auchenhowie on Wednesday to step up his preparations for the first day of pre-season training on Friday.

Rangers will head to Spain for a ten-day camp this weekend before their attentions are fixed on the Europa League first round qualifiers next month.

Gerrard has added six players to his Light Blues ranks already this summer but he will also have to clear the decks to free up space in his squad.

The likes of Eduardo Herrera and Fabio Cardoso will also find themselves surplus to requirements and will depart if deals can be done to end their Ibrox careers.
