RANGERS midfielder Jason Holt could be reunited with former Ibrox team-mates Joey Barton and Clint Hill at Fleetwood Town.

SportTimes understands the new Cod Army management team are keen to clinch a deal for the 25-year-old ahead of their first campaign in the dugout.

Barton was appointed boss at Highbury earlier this month and Holt could now become the third former Light Blue to sign up with the League One outfit.

SportTimes revealed last week that Holt and midfield compatriot Andy Halliday would not be part of Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox plans this term.

Halliday joined up with the Gers squad that flew out to Spain on Sunday morning but Holt was not involved in the travelling group as he edges closer to the exit door after three years with the club.

Boss Gerrard has added six players to his squad already this summer and there will be several departures in the coming weeks as the 38-year-old prepares for the Europa League qualifiers and new Premiership campaign.

Defender Fabio Cardoso and striker Eduardo Herrera will also be allowed to leave Ibrox after failing to impress during their first season with the Gers.

The future of captain Lee Wallace remains up in the air after he was also left at home while Gerrard and his players headed for the continent yesterday morning.

The left-back missed the closing weeks of the season with a groin problem and was involved in an alleged bust-up with boss Graeme Murty in the aftermath of the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic.

Wallace was suspended and fined four weeks’ wages after an internal investigation while Kenny Miller, who has now left Ibrox at the end of his contract, was hit with a two week fine.

Both players have appealed their punishments to the SPFL and Wallace’s long-term future is unclear despite him having another year to run on his Gers deal.

Boss Gerrard appeared the leave the door open for Wallace to make a return to the squad on Friday if he can regain his fitness and bring an end to his off-field issues.

But the 30-year-old will remain in Glasgow in the coming days to continue his rehabilitation while the Gers are put through their paces in Andalusia.

Summer signings Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield and Jamie Murphy were on the flight, while Ovie Ejaria, Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson will join up with the squad in Spain.

Gerrard will kick-off his first Premiership campaign as Gers manager with a trip to Aberdeen, while the first Old Firm clash of the season is scheduled for Saturday, September 1 at Parkhead.

The Light Blues will discover their opponents for the Europa League first qualifying round when the draw is made in Nyon on Wednesday.
