CONNOR GOLDSON will lead by example at Rangers this season – whether he has the captain’s armband or not for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The defender joined up with the Light Blues squad at their training base in Spain this week after completing a £3million move from Brighton.

Boss Gerrard has yet to announce who will be leading out the Light Blues this term but has spoken positively about Goldson’s commanding qualities.

And the 25-year-old is determined to play his part and rally those around him as he looks to become a key figure at Ibrox.

Goldson said: “I’ve always been a leader. I don’t know how or why.

“It’s probably just my passion for football, my passion to want to win games. I don’t like losing, whether it’s training or table tennis downstairs.

“I don’t want to lose. That just brings out the competitiveness in me. I want to win so I have to lead sometimes. From a young age, I was made to do that at Shrewsbury.

“I think that made me into an adult very early, having be a captain. We got promoted so it was a great season and since then I have taken it on. It is the job. Sometimes you have to lead at centre-half.

“It would be unbelievable [to be captain] but at the same time that is his decision to make. There are people that have been here a lot longer than me, people who have already been captain.

“So I can’t sit here and say ‘yes, I want to be captain of the football club’. It would be amazing but there are other candidates and other people who could be captain. It’s not for me to talk about at the minute.”
